samsung digimax D53

i was given a 512MB memory stick for my samsung but for some unknown reason it will not formatt.any ideas!

I am going to assume that it is a used memory card that has been in another camera.

That means there is some file or folder on the card that your camera does not like.

Two choices:

Take the card to your local photo processing site (WalMart perhaps) and ask them to remove all data from the card. They may charge you a small fee.

Buy a card reader that can read SD memory cards and install it on your computer. Use Windows Explorer to delete all files and folders from the card.

Then your camera should be able to recognize the card and let you format the card.
