Samsung+cnet x no c8000 plasma review = strange

by sf2rome / July 8, 2010 1:41 AM PDT

I know HDTech will chime in and say the cnet reviews of HDTV's are not within his domain- and this is very true (he performs a great service for us all), but isn't strange that cnet has not reviewed Samsung's flagship plasma this late in the cycle?

For example, the new Sony HX909 has a full review and it hasn't been out nearly as long as the Samsung c8000 plasma.

Also, if we are going to be referred to ask Mr. David K himself, can you provide his email account or a link to email the editors?

Thanks!

sf2rome,

You are correct that it is "out of my domain" in the official sense. I have put a request in on the Samsung side to look into this, but I just don't have the ability to pursue the issue.

More importantly, what I don't want to do is jeopardize the legitimacy of reviews by appealing or requesting in any way to the reviewers or staff of C|Net, since the editorial process is absolutely removed and separate from our participation in the forums. That's a transparency issue, and judging by your post, you already understand that and I very much appreciate the fact that you do. Happy

But here's how I can help facilitate your other request:

Thanks for your kind words.

HDTech,

Thanks for not only the quick response, but giving me the link to my actual request. It's nice to be heard!

Please forward this thread to the higher ups at Samsung because what I am about to write is dripping in meaning.

I am about to spend several thousand dollars on a new 3D HDTV. Times are tough, but I'm a consumer, what can I do. I think the Panasonic VT-25 looks stunning, but the glasses ruin the experience. The Sony LX900 is not only LCD, but is significantly more money without justification. That brings me to the PN63C8000.

It is a brilliant 3D HDTV. I have my concerns about "buzzing", on/off cycling, and crosstalk, but when I read actual user experiences- all that concern subsides. It's an awesome piece of technology. Yet, that isn't the total reason I will choose Samsung over the others.

It's this forum.

To know that for any reason I can come here and have my voice heard by a professional like HDTech, it soothes the buying anxiety. In the end, we always get what we pay for in life. In this case, I'm just glad that includes HDTech!

Thanks

Traded emails with David ...

David said the review for the C8000 plasma should be done and broadcasted in early August. Good news for me!

There a post about a guy with image issues on PN58C8000 that I'm interested to see what you think is going on???

Thanks again for everything!

sf2rome,

I'd be happy to take a look.

That said, let's keep in mind that out of thousands and thousands of units on the market, there are bound to be issues and exceptions to every good product run. If this is a concern, I'd just be straight-forward in suggesting an extended warranty for the amount of time that works best for you.

great suggestion ...

Yes, a four year extended warranty is worthwhile investment for a PN63C8000.

Thanks for the candidness.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
