Question

Samsung CLX-4195FW Printer Firmware Screw Up... Help!

Feb 19, 2015 2:21AM PST

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have recently upgraded the firmware of my CLX-4195FW printer, which is a great printer by the way, and had to discover that the firmware update timed out and made my printer's display unusable.

I now get a permanent error on the display: "UI firmware upgrade unsuccessful". Retrying the firmware upgrade yields the same and trying to put on a earlier firmware is just blocked by "Upgrade not necessary".

I tried the USB firmware upgrade, no luck. Leaving the power cable off for 30 minutes and restarting doesnt do anything. I talked to Samsung Support and did many remote sessions, with no luck.

Now my question is, since it seems like I have exhausted all possible software solutions, what part do I need to replace (is there a Mainboard that has the firmware on it?) to make this printer work. Hiring a repairman for 150 an hour is just not an option, but I am willing to pay for the parts and install them myself, if it is possible.

Thanks so much in advance community! I appreciate your help.

Thanks Bob, would you say that the LSU is the thing that has the firmware on it or the PBA? Sorry I am no Samsung hardware expert.

(NT) I'd need a service manual but my experience answers PBA.

Found a exploded view

Hi Bob, thanks so much for your help. you seem to be the pro!

Found a exploded view of the printer and see all kinds of PBAs<div>
Exploded View of CLX-4195FW
I am thinking its the PBA-Main (Material Code JC92-02529A) on the second page, but there is also a PBA-GUI i guess where the display is but that shouldn't have the software on it, no?

My bet is both have some code.

But my bet is on main. Thanks for hanging in there.

I understand, thank you.

Thank you Bob, I am hoping Samsung_HD_Tech will find some other way to reset the firmware or provide me with a firmware that is newer or just for the UI. If not, I will order the main PBA and just hope for the best!

I appreciate your help!!!

I thought I would let everyone know that I successfully repaired the CLX printer.

I replaced the

- OPE-COVER;CLX-4170FW, SEC

Thank you Bob for pointing me to the right mainboard PBA!

Samsung CLX...

Good Afternoon!
I just have a couple of questions for you.

Have you tried downloading the firmware off the website?

What operating system is running on your computer?

Have you tried uninstalling the printer, reinstalling and then tried updating?

Regards,
HD Tech

Yes

Yes, thats where I got the firmware from.

I have been through 4 remote sessions with Samsung and tried many ways to put the firmware on the printer (syncthru, USB) over the last 3 days. Quite frustrating but I am optimistic I can replace a part and have it working again since I have exhausted all software solutions. I am running Win 8.1. Yes i have tried unistalling, reinstalling and updating (also I tried updating from other computers running windows 7)

may I add

Every time I try to update via USB using SMS the system tells me that "no update required". Updating over SyncThru results in a time out and the printer not restarting and giving me the UI error on the display of the printer. I can still print via network.

Maybe this picture will help explain the error:

I have but with the display not working I can't see the message "Default Settings..." I also assume that the buttons are not working, since none of them do anything when I touch them.
