Samsung Class 8000 3D TV Audio

Sep 13, 2010 8:50AM PDT

I have a new Samsung 8000 Class 3D TV using DirecTV HD receiver and an Onkyo HT-S9100THX surround sound system. My problem lies in the 3D feed to the TV through the Onkyo pass-throughs. The TV requires a direct feed from the DirecTV to watch 3D via HDMI. I have spent ALOT of money on my home theater and do not want sub-par audio to the surround sound. Can I get a HDMI splitter and get the sound and the video feed to the components and not lose any quality in the audio or 3D?

Samsung Class 8000 3D TV Audio

mtway,

I'm not aware of an HDMI splitter, and even if such a product was available on the market, it'd be difficult to say for sure if it would work or not.

The connection directly to the TV is essential (also for 3D Blu-Ray Players), and the recommendation I would have is to run the DirecTV directly to the TV with HDMI, and then run the optical from the DirecTV to the receiver with optical cable.

Will I not lose some of the audio quality? I wonder if they have plans to give any of the new 3D TVs an HDMI out for just the audio. The Class 8000 has several "pig-Tails" for other connections to the TV. Maybe one day they will think of us who want HDMI to our home theater and give us a HDMI pig-tail.

Optical

Ok, I bought the optical cord to run from the TV to the Onkyo receiver. Now I have no idea how to get the optical output to work. I do not see any thing in the TV menu for optical out. I plug it in and do not see the light on the other end of the cable. I can set the inputs for the Onkyo as far as HDMI, Optical, and coaxial but this will do me no good until I can get the TV to send out the optical signal.

mtway,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

Using your remote, with the optical connected:

MENU > SOUND > Speaker Select > External Speaker > ON

Does that help?
