I'll see if I can assist.
What exactly do you mean by "thrashing"? Does it sound as if the disc is bouncing around inside? Does the disc scratch? Does it make the sound if a disc is not in the drive at all? Any description would be helpful.
Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252S R903 HPD
- Drive F/W Version : R903
- F/W OEM Code : HPD
- Disc info : Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252S
The CD-R/RW in my Compaq Presario SR1010V randomly starts thrashing and blinking the drive activity light. It seems to occur at completely random times and once it starts the only way to stop it is to restart the computer, but the thrashing eventually starts again. My operating system is Windows XP Pro SP3. The thrashing drive is a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252S ATA Device, and it's firmware version is R903.
I have tried finding drivers for the SW-252S on Compaq's Presario SR1010V page but I do not see a listing for the Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252S.
I have tried using Samsung's LiveUpdate program to update the firmware but it reports that the drive is not compatible. I have tried manually downloading the most up to date firmware for SW-252S which is R954, but when I try to use it in the Tsdnwin.exe program it says 'This Firmware is not compatible with the selected drive. Contact your system manufacturer for information on firmware updates available for this drive.' I have tried all six of the firmware results that are displayed when searching for 'SW-252S' but they all return the not compatible error. Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to resolve the problem with my device.
