If your computer has

a drawer loading DVD drive, download and install HandBrake - or any number of other DVD rippers. Rip the video to a computer-useful format like avi, wmv, mov or mp4. It needs to be compressed a lot for emailing or you can upload to places like vimeo.com if it is too large. Your email service provider has file size guidelines.

Most people edit first - MovieMaker likes wmv and avi; iMovie likes mov and dv... among many others.

Warning: VOB files captured by standard definition DVD based consumer cams capture poor quality video.

If your computer has only a slot loading DVD drive, never put small or odd-sized discs in a slot loading drive. Get an external drawer loader.

If possible, learn to use the caps lock on the keyboard. Some punctuation would be nice, too.

Question about the Samsung SC-DX103
Mar 20, 2009 10:05AM PDT

I just purchased the above camcorder and I'm trying to download my video disk onto my computer. I downloaded the software that came with the camera called: DV MediaPro 2.2 but nothing happens. I tried to set the settings to "mass storage" like instructed but it won't let me (shaded area on the settings menu). I'm an amateur as you can see and this is my first camcorder. I only want to do simple things like creat educational video's and put them on my puter and than upload them to "You Tube". Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.

any software that comes with any consumer camcorder that is actually useful. Have you tried ripping the video from the finalized DVD as suggested in the post to which you responded?

Forgive me

does this mean the software that came with me camcorder is useless?

I will continue to research and educate myself on this "ripping" technique.

Thank you.

No need to ask forgiveness...

I was just wondering...

Yes, in my opinion, the software that comes with any consumer camcorder is useless. As you have already indicated, you "downloaded the software that came with the camera called: DV MediaPro 2.2 but nothing happens."

According to the camcorder's manual
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200809/20080911134044218_SC-DX100_ENG-SPA_0725.pdf
starting on page 90, DV Media Pro merely allows you to use the camcorder as a DVD player so you can watch the video on a Windows computer. At the top of page 91: "View Movie Recordings and Photos on PC"... The Transfer function appears to limited to transferring photos off the memory card only (Page 94). There appears to be some method for copying the video files off the disc (Page 93 & 96), but this is where the previously suggested ripper (third party) is recommended. Please note on Page 96 under, "TRANSFERRING FILES FROM THE DVD CAMCORDER TO YOUR PC", it states, "You can copy the movie and photo images to your PC and play them back"... so no editing - which means if you want to edit or get the video file into any format for uploading, you will still need to convert the file with something. Rather than taking two steps, using a third party ripper keeps you at a single step.

Good luck.

Merely a suggestion. It is up to you to use your caps lock or not. Most folks use the caps lock.

If you mean about the all capital letter posts.

Then that is never a personal attack. There is an etiquette to posting and you YELLED your post out and will get feedback.

-> There it is. It was feedback and not a personal attack.

And yes, I agree that all capital letter posts should be avoided. It derails the conversation. But it is your conversation so feel free to do as you please.
