Resolved Question

Samsung BD6500 DVD recorder suddenly recording in DVD-RTAV..

Aug 1, 2011 5:26AM PDT

I have a Samsung BD6500 DVD Recorder.

For years since I got it, it's always recorded shows in VIDEO_TS.

Last night I recorded a show, put the disc in my computer and found that it recorded it in a DVD-RTAV file.

Does anyone know what happened? Why all of a sudden it recorded it in this mode?? (which i know nothing about).

Thnx

Sounds like VR MODE and Finalizing issues.

I could not find RTAV information and can't guess what mode that could be. But look again and see if there is a FINALIZE option.

RESOLVED....
Aug 1, 2011 8:08AM PDT

First of all, I was in 'babysitting' mode, trying to type this problem in during a few quiet moments I had and listed the wrong player. The problem was with my Samsung DVD-VR330 Player/Recorder.

In any case, I just resolved the problem.

I unplugged the unit, plugged it back in, reset the time, ran it thru the channel memory again, test recorded 2 minutes, put the disc in my computer and it shows Video-TS format again, like it should have in the first place.

I have no idea where the resultant DVD-RTAV file came from on the last recording. I couldn't even find much information on that format anywhere on the internet.

This thing is getting old and fussy. I can put a blank dvd+-rw in this unit one day and have it reject it and put the same disc in two days later and it will format the disc for use and work fine. Beats me?? It's just getting undependable.

These recorders don't age well, BUT I have a tip.

And only you can decide if it's worth it.

1. Use a CD/DVD cleaning disc.
2. I have had DVD RW media get old. As they fail I toss them if they are over a year old. This greatly reduced my need for the bottle (of aspirin.)

I will check out the cleaning disc...

Thanks Bob.

Your absolutely right. I too have tossed many a dvd-rw and bought new and different brands.

I used Memorex without problems for a long time. Then even new ones started acting up.

I switched and bought some TDK, and the player almost flat-out rejected most of those.

Now it's a cr*p.-shoot as to which ones will and won't work.

I will certainly check out the CD/DVD cleaning disc though. Thanks!
