In the USA we don't see region free players so you may have to return it. Now if these are DVDs are from overseas all bets may be off if you can play them on players from normal stores. You may have to search the ebay and such for a region free model. Be aware that such are still not legal here for reasons no one is clear about.
Regions were so that governments could control what the population could watch and for companies that produce content to maintain control.
http://dvd-player-software-review.toptenreviews.com/what-is-dvd-region-lock.html notes RCE was implemented to block region 1 from playing on region free players.
Frankly, what a mess.
My wife bought this player for Christmas, and we have so many DVD's, but, it seems that most will not play, even though the sales rep said that all DVD types would play, but I keep getting the message, that the player can't p[lay DVD's bought from overseas. But, I know, that many are NTSC R1, and it still says the same message. Might there be a way to unlock the player, so, I don't get this message and all of our DVD's play?
