Question

Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray Wifi Dvd Player - Access Point?

Dec 17, 2012 7:22AM PST

I recently purchased a Samsung BD-C6900 blu-ray player with built in wifi. I'm having a problem connecting it to my wireless internet. Everytime I try to connect it, it takes about 2 minutes saying "Connecting to network" and then it will say "Failed to connect to wireless AP (access point)." I tried manually putting it my ip, subnet and gateway as well and it did the same thing, and I also tried holding the stop button for 10 seconds to completely restart the dvd player from scratch.

I also have a Sony blu ray built in wifi player which has absolutely no problem connecting to my wifi, as well as many of things like my iphone and macbook which have no problem with connecting to the wifi.

There seems to be a lot of threads on different forums regarding not being able to connect to the wifi on this particular samsung model. Do you think my problem lies within the Samsung blu-ray player itself, or my wifi need to be set differently to get the access point to work?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hey Bob, thanks for the quick reply.

I tried moving the dvd player about 4 feet away from my router and still nothing. I am also using a WEP connection if that helps at all. My ssid is not hidden either. WPA key also fits within the recommended characters. I am also using verizon fios.

Sorry but I can't tell what router and more is used.

Does it connect with no security? There are other reasons for the failure such as enabling MAC filters but let's hear more.

I disabled my security key and also turned firewall security to low and still nothing. Oddly enough, if I make my iPhone a password protected hotspot, it will connect easily. The only difference I can see is maybe because my hotspot is WPA and not WEP like my router?

Ahh, the firewall.

Most routers block the needed ports so you have to decide if you will try that. The iPhone test helps me think it's that or the other usual DNS. Over in the forum post I linked to it should have the Google DNS advice.
