Samsung Ativ 500T - Updating to 8.1, Day 2...

Mar 23, 2015 5:43AM PDT

So... I'm on day 2 of re-installing Windows on my Samsung Ativ 500T tablet which wouldn't boot after a Windows update last week. I have managed to install all the necessary drivers in the horrendous SW Update application and preformed all necessary Windows updates.

After attempting to update to Windows 8.1 through the Store, the tablet hangs on boot indefinably, and restarting (three times) reverts to Windows 8.0.

My Google-fu indicates it may be an issue with the Intel graphics driver. So after installing 8.1 and reverting to 8.0, twice, I've now updated the graphics and bluetooth drivers through Windows Update (Why is Windows updating my drivers right after updating via SW Update, Samsung?) as well as the "Windows 8 patches" buried in the SW Update application and I'm trying it again. I don't expect it to work.

Some people have gone as far as installing Windows via USB stick. No thanks.

Samsung? What is the installation procedure for Windows 8.1 for this device?

windows 10 random freeze
Aug 2, 2015 1:12PM PDT

Getting random freezing with the windows 10 on this model.

Try pin point what it is doing it, could the intel driver for the graphic card.

Thinking of try windows 8.1 and let it be.

I have the Samsung XE500T1C-A02CA.

I also have the Samsung XE500T1C-A02CA. & just contacted Samsung Internet assistance & they advised this model cannot support Windows 10 & is not upgradable.

very disappointing news.

Please keep posting results of your tablets performance & let us know if it is worth the upgrade, or should we maintain the win 8.1 os.

Windows 10 keep freezing on this model.

I will revert back to windows 8.1 and see if I can make the sound work. If not, going back to windows 8.

As for myself I use it for watch it video on tutorial and some search for my hobby. But I am still disappointed by this Samsung tablet.

It was the first from Samsung and the last I am buying from them.

I had better support and better running pc's from Dell.

Windows 10 Installed
Aug 29, 2015 9:28AM PDT

Hi all,

Ok I finally give it another try.

1. Installed windows 8
2. Upgraded (except the 2 kb for windows 8.1 update) with all windows and SW Update
3. Created a windows 10 install on my MicroSD
4. Uninstalled Realtek I2S driver, disable the sound Realtek i2c in device manager and rebooted.
5. Installed Windows 10 from my Micro
6. Now I am running Windows 10 on it, didn't upgrade any driver. The bad side, is still the sound not installed so I am using when in need a USB Headset and will go by a cheap Bluetooth speakers.

Windows 10 is running fine with no upgrade done to the drivers, I did installed Windows 10 and ask to keep my files.

Sound should work on 10.....
Aug 29, 2015 3:18PM PDT

I upgraded to 10 as well and downloaded the SW update files for Win 8.1 on a XE500T1C-A01CA (as per Problem finally solved! by GL Jones / July 31, 2015 9:04 AM PDT). The only problem I had was windows 10 wouldn't let me run the install programs for the drivers so I had to install the drivers from the command prompt.

Everything has been working fine - sound, WiFi etc. ...no hang on reboot.

Good luck!

@ johndlewis
Hi, I just used the upgrade option via the Microsoft media creation tool but first make sure you upgraded all windows updates prior to the upgrade and also uninstall the realtek audio driver software in remove programs from control panel. Then once the upgrade is finished re start your machine a few times to get windows going because the Cortana app will take some time to get setup even after the install is complete and then you can reinstall the realtek 8.1 audio driver from samsung sw driver tool (pick the 500t 8.1 version). So, that's what I did and I also have the att version like yours. Good luck!
