Samsung A660 and mp3 Ringtones

by abillionmonkeys / March 2, 2006 3:19 AM PST

Can anyone help me -- is it possible to load mp3 ringtones onto a Samsung A660 phone from a PC? If so, please describe how it is done. Thanks. DLB

perhaps a midi file instead?

the samsung sph-a660 doesn't support mp3 files. it does support midi files tho.

If you want to try anyway, try using a mobile phone uploader on the web. upload the file using their tool and put in your phone number. It'll send you an sms with a URL, just go to that url using the phone browser and it should download. you'll probably get a file type not supported or some sort of error message. If the mp3 file does work, plz let me know.

thanks,
-Nick

Follow-Up Question
by abillionmonkeys / March 6, 2006 12:54 AM PST

Nick -- Appreciate the reply, very helpful. I think you are right, it will take a midi file instead of an mp3 to load onto the A660 as a ringtone. Here is a follow-up question. I'm doing this for a friend who has an A660. What if she does not have web browsing activated on her phone? Am I out of luck in terms of transferring the midi file as a ringtone, or is there another way to transfer the file to the phone as a ringtone?

Yeah there is another way. Theres a program called BitPim that is suppose to be able load ringtones, applications, and sync up you adress book. I've never used it myself because its a real hassle to get to work. You'll need a samsung data cable, the drivers and bitpim itself. Im not totally sure it works with the sph-a660 but if you dont have the web than its your best shot.

you can download bitpim for free at http://www.bitpim.org/

cables will cost you anywhere from 5 to 20 bucks and the drivers you can usually find on the net for free.

Be sure to check their compatability list

...before you buy non-samsung software. These 3rd party apps are notorious for having short compatability lists.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
