Question

Samsung 840 Evo upgrade not working

by MH42622 / May 22, 2014 11:20 AM PDT

I'm attempting to upgrade my HDD to a SSD and after following the steps laid out by Samsung of using their software to clone the HDD I'm left with a computer that has no windows explorer. I have an Asus G75VW running windows 8.1. As of right now, doing a fresh install of windows and just reinstalling everything isn't an option because I do not have a windows disk.

Answer
I didn't use Samsung last time

And the new SSD didn't boot. So I had to boot the Microsoft Windows 8.x Repair DVD (it's on the web) and found my way to a repair my PC. After that, my new SSD booted.

This is not the first time I had to do that and frankly I'm a bit upset with the industry and how they made a mess with UEFI and more.

I created a recovery on a stick and tried to boot from that but after asking me my language and leading me to repair screen it goes nowhere. Just continual loops back to that screen.

Remember I used something from Apricom to clone with. With the new UEFI BIOS cloning just got a lot harder and I can't tell what the host was.
