Question

Samsung 65" KS8000, 240 Motion?

Mar 26, 2017 10:25AM PDT

I'm looking into getting a new TV. I was considering the Samsung 65" KS8000 for one reason it has 240 Motion Rate.

My current TV is a Samsung 750 7 Series, 1080P Resolution with 240hz refresh rate.
I do not like motion blur so I purchased a TV with 240hz refresh rate.
Because I do not like the soap opera effect I have the Auto Motion Plus turned off and Edge Enhancement turned off.

Since I have these turned off is it running at 120hz or 240hz?
Since I have it turned off is it that important to have my new TV with 240?

Also, I will need to hookup a VCR to the new TV. Is their a company that makes a devise so I could hookup my VCR to HDMI?

Not sure why some TV manufactures no longer make TV's with a swivel base.

Thanks,

In short.

Panel rate is a fixed rate. So your input video is at some rate but is put on the screen at the panel rate.

Tough to grasp at first.

As to swivel bases I can see that going away on big screens and litigious users.

you can try the RF antenna port

Some TV's like my Vizio will still pick up analog channels if in area and it's set to that. Maybe the RF will still work for a VCR.

The KS8000 handles motion quite well

So that's one thing you can check from your bucket list. I have two and they are strong performers. The more important thing though is the quality of the feed you are supplying. Some satellite and cable channels are plain crappy. Even some of the better HDTVs won't be able to work with some content that is just poor.

Hooking up a VCR to this rig isn't recommended. It won't look particular good.

1. Your 240hz panel is still moving at 240hz even with AutoMotion off. The real question is how it get there. You want a TV with 5:5 pulldown for the best picture quality at 240hz.

2. There are some higher-end VCRs out there with better connections. I have only ever seen one with HDMI built in, but there is no adapter.

3. HDTV still support component (red, green, blue) and composite (yellow) connection for non-digital signals. You will need a 3.5mm to video adapter to do it.

4. Swivel TV stands are more expensive, and not used in homes as much as you would think. TV manufacturers have opted to save the money.
