Samsung 52a850 problem with bottom and top of screen

Feb 1, 2009 4:18AM PST

The bottom screen of my Samsung only shows the top half of "scrolling" bottom sentences on wide view. Also, the top of the screen edge sometimes has a "sparkly" white edge. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Box calibration...
Feb 2, 2009 6:53AM PST

For the white static/images, it is likely that the cable/sat box needs a calibration or a reset. The information in those lines are being sent directly to the television.

Is that happening on one channel only, or several?

As for the scrolling lines, it may be part of the box calibration settings, but is likely a setting in either the aspect ration of the cable box or the television.

A 16x9 picture output from cable box into the 16x9 setting on the television keeps the native resolution from souce to screen.

A 4x3 picture output from the cable box to a 16x9 setting on the television changes the resolution and can distort the picture. Same for vica verca (16x9 cable feed transferred to 4x3 on television).

The Wide View may be causing the issue, and changing that aspect ratio may give you the full picture.

Keep me posted!

wide screen without the zoom
Feb 2, 2009 10:56AM PST

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

I am not using a cable box, I get all the locals with just direct cable to the television, they come in on channels 88-1 and up. 88-1 channel 2, 88-2 channel 4 and so forth. No cable box is used. loosing the bottom of the screen happens on chanel 88-1 and 88-2 while watching the news, I lose the horizontal scrolling message across the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to go full screen without the zoom ?

S6187W screen alignment off.....
Feb 2, 2009 12:57PM PST

The top of the frame looks to be good and the bottom of the frame is good on the right but drops out of sight in the left corner (looking from right to left). I ran a THX calibration on the screen from a DVD player after I had compared the calibration to a picture on a new set. Any adjustments I can do?? Thanks. PLR

Overscan...
Feb 5, 2009 2:47AM PST

rebs081,

What may be happening is from the broadcaster's side. The picture may be enhanced with overscan, and the television may also be doing the same overscan, ending up with a partial loss of picture.

Try setting the TV to "Just Scan" mode and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Solved for me

I solved this issue by sticking with 16:9 and not using "Just Scan"
