I bought the samsung hd listed above and put it in an esata external case with sata, firewire and usb ports. when I connected using the usb port, my computer recognized the 'new hardware detected, but will not list the drive when I browse to 'my computer-only the c and the d drives are shown, along with several removable media drives. Is there a way to get the new samsung drive to appear along with the existing two drives? I connected the samsung and case to 3 other computers with the same result...help, please and thanks in advance

Manage

JB..

Assuming you're using XP, right click on My Computer and select "Manage". Click on the "Disk Management" tab on the left under "Storage" and you'll see all the connected drives. What you want to do is mount the drive, which shouldn't take very long.

Usually the first drive you'll see is labeled Disc 0, and it will give your C: drive's parameter, and it will likely note that it is "Healthy". You new drive should be down the list. When you locate the drive, right click and format it. After that, it should be recognized by the PC.

It is unlikely that you'll need drivers for the external case, however, I would check with the manufacturer for customer support.

Keep me posted.

Thank you HD Tech for the solution to my samsung HD issue

HD Tech,
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!..you are one cool tech adviser; I had been to the device manager to try and resolve the problem, but never to the disk management or the storage link. Congratulations on your direct and easily understood solution, including the need to format the disk. As you thought, I did not need to get any new drivers for the case ( a Max 4 thermaltake). You and cnet forums are a great resource for those of us who, though reasonably computer savvy, still have much to learn even though I often do some basic troubleshooting and all maintenance for my wife's office system. Three drives ( c d k)all alive and working properly!
Thanks once more, HD Tech
Best Regards,
JB
