Question

Samsung 4G TV Turns On while watching cable.

My Samsung 4G LED 75 inch TV is connected through my receiver which in turn is connected to my Comcast box. While watching cable TV the screen will go blank for a moment and then come on through the TV receiver so I am watching whatever channel through the TV plus the cable channel is also playing (sound only). With the TV remote I hit the return button and a text box pops up on screen asking if I want to leave TV-Plus to which I select yes and I'm back to normal. This process will repeat itself after several minutes of normal watching. This used to not happen and suddenly began going on a month or so ago. Also, I notice the TV alone will turn itself on when I'm not in the room.

Not a sure fix.

This sounds like HDMI CeC is in play. That is called by Samsung by another name, maybe AnyNet and at times you find it broken. You can try updating all firmware in all devices and hope they fixed it,

I suspect the receiver here since it is the one that can send a command to the TV to switch sources. I can't guess why the receiver is doing that but it would be my first stop for the firmware update. Another fix is to connect the HDMI from the receiver to a non-AnyNet port or disable AnyNet if firmware updates don't fix this.

This gives me something more to look at. Thanks for getting back. BTW my receiver is a Onkyo TX-SR373.

I didn't find a firmware update for the 373

In reply to: Thanks

So the quick test to move the HMDI cable from the receiver to a non-AnyNet port.

I've been monkeying with it all morning and noticed there doesn't seem to be a way for the Onkyo to connect with the internet and update itself. The TV I'm still working on. I love these new fangled devices!

Figured this out, sort of.

This link in for another thread on the Samsung forum: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/TV-Audio-Video/TV-Plus/td-p/247863. Apparently this is a wide-spread problem and is due to Samsung programming. Sounds like a real PITA. I have turned off AnyNet and TV plus has not returned, but it's only been for an hour or so. Fingers crossed but Samsung has a real albatross around their neck.

TV Plus removal

In reply to: Samsung 4G TV Turns On while watching cable.

I removed TV+ from the Samsung TV. It was the possible reason for my getting two channels at once. There are folks who have had it return all by itself but let's hope Samsung will correct this in a new software release.

Good to read.

While it's not popular I disable Samsung's smart TV feature and use my Roku or Amazon Fire TV.
