Samsung 46in LCD 860(series)-Component vs Cable

Feb 15, 2009 9:04PM PST

Here's my question:

I have a samsung 8 series 46inch lcd flatscreen. i'm running Cablevision HD DVR box on component cables. In the menu option, I can scroll down to set up and set up a time when my tv comes on and when it turns off, but it onlly allows me to turn on the tv on "CABLE" or "AIR", which gives me the snow effect with no signal. My TV only gives me picture when the INPUT~source LIST* is "COMPONENT1". How to get this feature to work with my component cables? in essence, I don't get picture via the 'cable' or 'air' option on the 'Atennae', I get it via 'component1', but this timer feature on my tv seems to only allow one to automatically come on via 'cable' or 'air'. help!

Not your biggest issue

I think you can find the answer in your owners manual. IMO your biggest issue is component cables don't give you 1080i or 1080p. You need HDMI cables to get the best possible picture or you're not getting what you paid for.

HDMI override coax?
Feb 16, 2009 7:41AM PST

Indeeed your are right, and I'm am going to buy HDMI cables soon, but regardless of whether it's HDMI or component, my problem is when the TV turns on via this timer feature, it only allows 'cable' or 'air' as the source.

Here's another way of asking this question, if I put HDMI cable and I throw a coax cable on the tv as well, will the HDMI cables override the coax???

john1griff,

Page 61 of the manual notes that only the AIR/CABLE input, or content on a USB drive can be used for setting the ON/Off timer.
