Samsung 4665F vs 4661F

May 15, 2007 9:44AM PDT

Anyone care to weigh in on these two sets. The 4661 Has not been rated yet but apparently the major differences between it and the 4665F are the matte screen and the 10000:1 contrast. Any opinions on which is the better LCD?

the LN-T4665F looks to be nicer w/ the "15000:1" contrast ratio, almost 15 pounds lighter & the speakers on the sides not under like on the 4661F. Other then that they look the same, both have 3 hdmi, 1 USB port & same respones time.

Samsung 4665F for sure
May 17, 2007 1:00PM PDT

Personally, I work with TV's (selling them retail with comisson) and between the two the only true difference is going to be the blacks and whites. Personally, I'd say for the marginal difference it's worth it to get the 4665F, when looking side by side, you do see a difference. When comparing them to the XB2, the 4661F looks comprable yet cheaper, but the 4665F looks better. The colors actually come off nicer than any of the plasmas or even the 46D82U from Sharp (which has the 4ms response and 120Hz refresh rate). I am buying the 4665F and I watch these all 30-35 hours a week.

Considering purchase of Samsung LNT4665f
May 20, 2007 1:13AM PDT

I noticed your comments on this make and model as I am considering the purchase of this LCD tv. I think I have narrowed it down to an LDC and this model, but my main concern is the potential for blurring with an LCD at 46". I watch a lot of sports and I'm concerned that the 8ms response won't be sufficient. I've noticed that the Sharp models have a 4ms response, but I'm staying away from that brand because of the potential for banding problems. Do you think I'm over reacting about this blurring concern, or is plasma the way to go?

Everything I've read pretty much points to the LNT4665F as the LCD brand and model to go with.

The 4665 is the better TV
May 17, 2007 4:40PM PDT

Hey guys...

First off, thank you funkyman for your kind words about the 4665. I agree with you 100%. I work for Samsung and we are really pleased with the 4665 TV. It's getting incredible reviews from customers and CNET just made it the top rated LCD HDTV. Our guys at the factor hit a home run with this one.

HD Newbie - As Funkyman said, the 4665 is the better TV. The 4661 is a great TV but the 4665 is the top of the line. The major difference between the two TVs is something called "super clear panel". This panel gives the 4665 the deepest blacks that I have ever seen on an LCD TV. If you are looking for the best 1080p LCD TV, then you should get the 4665. If you have a limited budget, then the 4661 is a good choice because it's still a 1080p TV and has most of the 4665's features.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help.

Last year I bought the t.v. of my dreams toshiba 72HM195 I did check out the samsung and both the toshiba and samsung put out a stunning picture the only reason I went with the Toshiba was its huge screen sizeNow all I hear about is fan noise, rainbow effect and color wheel, lamp failures. well after 13 months no problems but most folks say d.l.p. is a dead item like a model T ha ha I also heard about wabilation Dont know what it means? Great TV Mr. Samsung, can you enlighten on a problem issue
May 31, 2007 7:35AM PDT

I just took delivery of the 4665. Awsome TV. Unbelievable color and clarity.

Mr. Samsung, on AVNET it has been reported and I have experienced twice in the last 5 days where the TV will drop power. It does it randomly. One day it did it every 70 seconds for 35 minutes.

The AVNET posting says Samsung is aware of the problem and is trying to identify and provide a software solution.
My motherboard and software are version 1016 and 1004

Are you aware of the problem? Do you know when it will be fixed?

I have the option to exchange the TV for another model or another 4665. Don't yet know what I will do.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was in South Korea for a business trip. Catching up on these forum posts today.

I asked around about this issue and no one around here has heard of this problem before. I have a call into our Service Team to see if they have dealt with any issue like this yet. I'll get back to you once I talk with them. (It is not a "known issue" as far as I know.)

When and where did you buy the TV?

I'm back on the forums now so you can expect a faster reply to any posts.

Hello,
I recently purchased the ln-t4065f. I've got a quick question and hopefully you've got the answer. I live in the upper penninsula of michigan and i can't find anyone to calibrate my new tv........i was wondering if you would have the picture settings for the 4065f after calibration. I tried using the picture settings posted on cnet for the 4665f and they didn't cut it..........can you help me out?

Calibration time
Jun 8, 2007 12:14AM PDT

John -

This is a tricky question because TV calibration is really about personal preference. I have seen TVs with odd picture settings but their owners liked it. In my experience, David K (CNET) is usually right on the money when it comes to picture settings but if you don't like it, I would contact a local retailer and ask them if they provide calibration services.

Where did you buy the TV?

Thanks for buying a Samsung TV!

Almost purchasing, but hesitant on the 4665
Jun 9, 2007 9:17AM PDT

Hello, Mr. Sammy if you could assist please.

After a lot of research on a 46" tv for my bedroom, I almost zeroed in on this set. However the following issues are keeping me at bay:

1. HDMI handshake issues. Even after software upgrades it seems the folks on AVS forums still have them. Especially with 1080p (lot of PS3 problems). Screens flash black, pink, green when using HDMI. Is there a once and for all software fix in the works? The issue does exist obviously there are a lot of folks talking about it.

2. 60hz. I almost hate being overly educated about this purchase because the more I know what's out there the more fault I can find in greatness. Frustrating. Silly Hell to be honest I'm not sure I'd even notice 60hz or 120hz frame rate but most seem to think it's worth the $. Please give me your opinion, will Samsung have a 120hz model coming soon for a similar price?

Thank you.

Stay on Target.... Stay on Target....
Jun 11, 2007 9:01AM PDT

Hello Scarlet Fever... How are you?

First off - thank you for considering a Samsung TV. I know what you mean when you say "overly educated" but it's important to do research before making a purchase like this so don't beat yourself up for asking these questions. Let me start by addressing your second concern about 60Hz and 120 Hz.

You asked if Samsung will have a 120hz model in the second half of 2007? Yes we will. I'm not sure about the pricing yet but it will be a little more expensive than the current 60Hz.

Your next question is "Should I wait for 120 Hz?? That?s a little tricky. It?s nice to have the most cutting edge technology but if you always waited for the ?next thing?, you might never buy a TV. New technologies come out every 6-12 months. Ask yourself this ? ?Do you feel that your current 60Hz HD suffers from motion blur?? Personally I have never said "That damn 60Hz is getting in the way of my incredible picture". If you do have those concerns, then maybe you should wait. If you didn't know about motion blur until you started researching TVs, then maybe you are getting caught up in the hype.

Regarding HDMI issues, I wish I could answer this question right now but we are still looking into this. We are aware of some issues with certain devises but we have not found the "once and for all" fix. This is not a wide spread problem and almost all HDMI devices work fine but we take every issue very seriously so we want to make sure we have made every effort to find the right solution before making suggestions to the public. Once I hear something, I?ll let you (and everyone on CNET) know what?s up.

By the way ? a 46? full HD LCD TV in your bedroom??? Wow! What type of place do you have? Sounds awesome.

Good luck with your shopping (and researching). Hope I was helpful.

Best,

Mr. Samsung

A question for Mr. Samsung
Mar 1, 2008 10:08PM PST

Hi Mr. Samsung!

It has been noted that newer models of the 4665 are using a different processor than before and that the quality of the image is not as good as before (Cortez processor vs. Trident processor). A rolling conversation on this issue can be found over at the AVS forums, or by doing a google search for 'Samsung LCD Cortez' or the like.

Anyway, I'm curious to hear your feedback on the issues that are being brought up. It also might be worth checking out the conversation simply from a marketing perspective as the issue is hurting Samsung's reputation, not only for the alleged 'bait & switch' but also from the experiences that people are having with the Samsung customer service department.

Thanks! D.

HDMI drop, pink and green flashes problem...
May 9, 2009 1:13AM PDT

Mr. Samsung,

I hope you are still monitoring these forums. I have a Samsung LN-T4665F HDTV. I have been very happy with it up to now. I have just recently decided to attach a HTPC to it. But, now that I have the HTPC connected (through HDMI), the TV is now periodically having pink and green flashes, and eventually the HDMI signal gets dropped and the screen goes black with the "no HDMI signal" message.

In the post that I'm replying to, you mention that Samsung is "looking" into this. The "this" you were referring to was a comment by ScarletFever99 who said:

--ScarletFever99----------------------------------------------------

--ScarletFever99----------------------------------------------------

And, that it apparently isn't affecting very many people. Unfortunately, I am apparently one of them. I am having these exact symptoms when I attach my HTPC to my TV using HDMI.

My current TV firmware version numbers are:

T-TULPAUS0-1016, Mar 5 2007 12:33:07
T-TULPAUS5-1004 CS[E3BB][46(AMW)-inch]

I currently also have a Tivo Series 3 hooked up to one of the other HDMI ports. And, that has been working fine for over a year.

Did Samsung ever determine if this was a problem with this TV? If so, was there a fix that was found? Can it be fixed with just a firmware flash?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide about this.

Regards,
Steve

LNT4665F HDMI Issues

Mr. Samsung:

Can you address the HDMI issues that the 2007 Samsung line seems to be having? I have called Samsung numerous times and nobody seems to know what is going on...?

Samsung HDMI Handshake issue 4065F
Jun 26, 2007 5:04AM PDT

I have the Samsung LN-T4065F - have had for over 2 months now and I love it - amazing picture - amazing TV - very great purchase. BUT I do believe I am getting an erratic HDMI Handshake Issue - I only have one device connected via HDMI and it is my Time Warner HD Cable Box - occasionally when I start the TV and cable box I will get a message on screen over a black box saying HDCP is not compatible - I have to then turn the TV off and back on. Sometimes when I am watching TV the screen will turn blue and it will say no signal - I know I am still getting a signal b/c the audio is running seperately from the cable box to the receiver and still coming in loud and clear - the fix is to turn off the TV and turn it back on again.... any word on this Mr. Samsung? I do love this TV but this can get annoying.

my HDMI handshake

it happens generally once every day or 2 - use the tv for about 4 hours a day in my household. Typically the HDCP thing happens only when the tv is turned on if it at all - the signal loss just happens whenever - there is no real warning bell.

hdmi isses after mainboard replacement
Jan 24, 2008 12:05AM PST

Mr samsung here's my story, I spent 3k on this lnt-4665f tv worked great out the box then 2 months later i turn it on and black screen, sound but no picture, i called samsung. they said its a known issue with this model they have a mainboard replacement. I had a samsung recommended a tech replace the mainboard. i got the tv back and the picture was way to dark, so i called samsung again they said the tech didn't make the proper adjustments. I had the tech take my tv again to make the adjustment, i went down to the shop to make sure it was right and it looked good. I got it home and used it for another 3 months till 3 days ago i noticed flickering in the picture, tried all 3 hdmi inputs same thing. to verify it was not my set top box i moved it to my 32 samsung hdtv in my den and no problems. I switched the source to s-video and component and they both worked fine. so i called samsung they said have a tech look at it again...i turned the tv on yesterday and hdmi was fine again, weird, but turned it on again today now it says "not a supported mode". called samsung again all they can do is have a tech look at it, totally ridiculous, my question is can this hdmi problem be corrected after the mainboard has already been replaced...and how can i trust this tv to hook a play station 3 up via hdmi..

signed "i should have bought a Sony".

I'm determined to solve this hdmi problem, i decided to test a few things. since i was stuck with component i decided to see if i could get digital optical sound . I'm missing that great hdmi sound. i hooked the optical cable to my tv and then to my set top box and what do you know no sound... i called verizon fios to see if there was some set top setting i was missing, there was none its suppose to work as soon as you plug it in. i put the stereo cables back to get my sound back... while i was in the set top box menu i decided to restore the set top box to its default settings to see if i could get my hdmi back and what do you know.. it came back...i can only deduct that the tv must have some incompatibility with the set top box. i also noticed in my tv menu there is a setting for software updates via usb connection.. if i have another issue with hdmi i will try that software download next....lol the struggle continues...

I think Mr Samsung has no clue what's going on... They have to swap out the main board... call Samsung directly and explain the issue and they have the nearest TV repair shop swap out your main internal board. I had mine done yesterday and so far, no handshaking issue.

HDMI Handshake Issue
Jul 2, 2007 6:34AM PDT

Mr. Samsung,

A) is thx4nuthin's answer the correct answer to my problem? Do I call Samsung to have the Main Board replaced?

B) I would think Samsung should just replace my TV (which is a little over a month old) with a brand new one of the same make with the right board. I didn't spend $2500 on a new TV just to take it to a Samsung dealer and have it taken apart and reassembled again?????

What do you think? What does everyone else think?

Abain777 -

Our service team is fielding a variety of HDMI questions so it's hard to narrow down what issue you might be having. I would call them and explain your situation in detail. There are several questions our team can address right over the phone. A minority of issues require a board change but if our Service Center feels there is no other option, they will set up an appointment with you or discuss replacements.

The number is 1-800-Samsung. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I will continue to look into this on my end and let you know if I hear anything more specific.

HDMI Dropout signal wile playing PS3.
Oct 30, 2007 7:47AM PDT

Mr_Samsung:

Do you have some news about this HDMI Dropout (signal loss) problem??.

I have my Samsung LN-T4065F connected to my PS3 in the HDMI 1 and I have noticed the signal dropout or signal loss wile playing PS3 Motor storm and only one time wile watching a blu-ray movie, I had a black screen and the message from the Tv saying "no signal detected", I got really scared, the first I tried was to shake the HDMI cable, then i just turn the TV off and on and the signal was there again. So, after I did that I didn't have more problems that day...

So I continue having the problems but very rarely, so I decide to call Samsung service center and they upgraded the Sw from 1022 to 1032.. Now it is better than before but still has sometimes the signal dropout for 1 second or so and it is not funny when you are very exiting playing PS3 games....

I looked on my TV's help menu and I have the Main board 1005....

My question for you is: Should I call again Samsung and ask them to replace my main board for the latest version 1011 or so?? or is there a new firmware sw version that can fix that at all?? I have heard that the newest is 1036. As I told you above my Tv already has been upgraded from sw 1022 to 1032 and still have some times the dropout signal for very short periods of time...

Thanks for your help.
