Samsung 4042 HDMI 1 - No Sound

Hi, I've been trying to hook up my PC to my TV so if I ever felt like watching Hulu or playing computer games on the couch, i'd be able to.

I hooked up my PC to my TV using a DVI to HD cable and the picture is fine. I then use my audio cable and plug that into the PC and put it into the DVI (HDMI 1) port on the back of the TV using the red and white cables. For some reason, I have picture on HDMI 1 but no sound.

I did some tests with the sound cable I had plugged into my PC. I took the video from my DirecTV and then took the sound from the PC and plugged them into the AV1 ports. Basically I had DirecTV video with my PC's sound and it worked. I could hear my PC sounds, but when plugging the cable into the DVI (HDMI 1) ports, I get nothing.

I've used this setup before on my past computer and a different TV (the TV was a very similar Samsung model that was 32 inches) so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any idea?

Looked up the model for the TV

LN4042

I double checked my connections, got a bit worried when I looked at my 32 Samsung and noticed that was connects to pc using HDMI 2 but the LN4042 connects via HDMI 1.

Samsung 4042 HDMI 1 - No Sound

faythi,

One of the HDMI ports may be a combo HDMI/DVI port. If you're using a computer, use that HDMI/DVI port. From there, go to the MENU and Edit the name of your input from "----" to "PC". This will power the audio-in port for the 3.5mm audio, and you can connect your computer using the headphone jack (3.5mm) to DVI-Audio IN (3.5mm).

Hmm

Right, there is a section on the back that says DVI (HDMI 1). I've been using these jacks for the sound and have the HDMI to DVI cable plugged into HDMI 1. I switched HDMI 1 over to PC and it doesn't work.

Figured it out

Alright, I figured out the problem. I'm using a EVGA NVIDIA GTX 275 graphics card. In the NVIDIA control panel under Change Resolution, if I go to the Samsung TV there is a connector drop down menu. The connector was set to HDMI-HDTV (Audio Enabled). I switched it to HDMI-HDTV(Audio Disabled). I guess because of my Graphics Card, my PC was trying to send the sound through the DVI to HDMI cable instead of 3.55 connector cable.

All is well, thanks alot Happy
