Samsung 40 A550 - Grainy Blu Ray

Jan 2, 2009 3:55PM PST

Hi guys,

I recently bought a 40' A550 set and overall I'm quite happy with it, I use it most for PS3 games.

The reason I'm asking for help is that I'm experiencing some noticeable noise/grain when playing blu ray films. I've tried lowering the sharpness to 0 and all of the default presets as well as the entertaining modes. With movie entertaining mode, the grain seems to dissapear or at least it's less evident. I'm using a Sony HDMI.

I hope someone can help me, I'm very dissapointed by this, I've tried the same movies on a Bravia and this doesn't happen.

Thank u all

P.D.: Sorry if my english is not very well, I'm from Argentina Happy

Grainy...

Aramismckay,

What output is your PS3 outputting at? Often times grainy pictures are the result of a low resolution setting. Some movies may also have a grainy appearance, and this is sometimes part of the movie transfer process to Blu-Ray.

Your english is just fine.

First of all, thank you very much for your help.

The output of the PS3 is 1080p so that should not be the problem. I know that some level of grain is expected, specially with the increased definition but I played the same movies on a Bravia and it doesn't happen, or at least not like in my tv.

I recently noticed another strange thing playing Little big planet, when the camera moves I see vertical bands "dividing" the picture, when the camera stops moving the bands remains for 1 sec and then just dissapear. That's very odd, I didn't see it on any other game, I tried this also on the Bravia and doesn't happen either.

Do you have any other suggestion?

Thanks a lot.-
