Question

Samsung 3d TV model UN46C8000xf screen issues

May 19, 2017 5:47PM PDT

Hi I recently posted this in the Samsung forum but since I am new here I didn't know which forum was better to post in so I will post the duplicate here also. I recently had a customer give me the above tv for free. They were going to throw it out as the right half of the screen was red vertically. I did some research and found this video:

https://youtu.be/jXsu3nGQKIc

Sure enough this seemed to mimic my tv. With the back off and the top 2 screws out of the main board I could make it appear and disappear as I flexed the board away from the tv case. So I did the procedure and it seemed to fix the screen! I was stoked. But we still had some darker shades in the upper right corner than the left side. I figured since this was an expensive tv when it was new and it wasn't a complete dinosaur I would order a new main board. Well turns out I can't find one because it is discontinued. So I read the comments on the video and people were saying the re flowed their boards by baking them in the oven. So tonight I did this and let it cool. It did not hurt anything but it did not fix the issue either. The weird part is that even though you can make the screen act up by flexing the main board with screws removed, you can sometimes make it better or worse by flexing the entire tv. I just wanted to post here and ask if this tv was even worth messing with. In it's day it was a 2000 dollar tv but it is 7 years old? Should I keep looking for a repair or is it time to throw my "freebie" away? Here is some pics. Notice the black spots on the right and the red graininess on the right half.

Clarification Request
I picked up a 49 inch HDTV for about 300 bucks

So repair is often more than a new set today which can upset folk. Keep searching on ebay for same model with a broken LCD than use those boards.

I'm going to supply a Youtube about connectors and cables. The symptom is not going to be the same but it does show the tech cleaning the connection and applying a special compound. You should do this.

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuwG5wqxTpE&t=2s
Then watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8777AzTf8U as they go over if it's a main board, LCD or other.

I inspected and cleaned the connectors. I thought I saw a bad spot but it cleaned right off. Anyways it didn't fix the problem. The only thing that seems consistent is that "hack" in the video I linked to. There seems to be a relation between flexing the top of the main control board away from the set and the red lines appearing and disappearing but even with the hack performed, there is still light black spots that look sort of like horizontal stripes in the upper right corner. They are not anything that you even notice until you have an image on the screen with a white or light colored background. Any darker colors like red or blue or black you can't even tell they are there. But the other thing that boggled me was without the hack (all 6 screws holding main board secure to set) you could also make the red lines come and go by flexing the tv and sometimes by tapping on the side. That almost sounds like a panel but I can't believe there are 2 issues. In the comments below the video I linked to, the video author states that he was having to beat on the side of his tv as well so his set seems to be exactly the same issue as mine and apparently a ton of other people too considering how many people commented. I think I stated in my original post that I re flowed the board in the oven so if there was a weak solder joint that should have fixed that. Very frustrating cause even though 6,7,8 years old this TV appears to still rival newer sets in performance (excluding 4k but who cares about that lol) and I hate to just junk it but I also hate to use it with the light black lines (they don't seem to bother anyone that much but me) and then have it go out completely down the road after I sell or give away my current tv that is working just fine currently (I don't have room to store tvs all over my house). It appears as if the picture quality of this set is remarable. This TV gives you the feeling of "being there" in the action. A friend of mine said that was due to such a high refresh rate but IDK. It reminds me of some of the Sharp TVs that advertised that extra color. They always seemed so real. Maybe someone can chime in and settle my troubled mind....My current tv is a 6 year old Samsung 43" plasma model number PN43D450A2D that is working fine. I thought when I received this set in question that it was a much better tv than what I currently had so if I can fix it cheaply I will gladly replace my current set. Am I wrong on the set quality? The picture on the 3d set in question seems so much better than the plasma as far as being in the action but maybe that's in my mind?

That's a solid block of text. Sorry but if there was a question in there I missed.

Never mind lol

I had a question about the picture quality between the 2 models. I located a tv repair shop in kansas city that was very helpful and they said if I could get it down to them they could look at it and that they could still get parts.
