Samsun LED TV won't turn off ...

by guice / September 26, 2011 12:54 PM PDT

Okay, I have a weird problem, and it seems to be getting worse: my Samsung LED 6300 55" TV just won't turn off... I'm having to unplug the bloody thing. Letting it set like this (has to be >hr), things go back to norm until the TV is heavily used again (basically the next night).

Samsung LED TV won't turn off ... -

guice,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue.

Based on your description, there's not much in the way of troubleshooting I can offer. I'd recommend having the unit serviced. There's no setting that will change it from powering down and turning back on.

Any idea on the problem?
by guice / September 28, 2011 9:36 PM PDT

Any idea what may be the cause? Everything falls back into place after being off for a period of time: tried 5-15 mins, no go. But leaving it unplugged overnight seems to "soft-fix" it. That is until heavy use again (on for 1+hrs).

guice,

I can't diagnose that, although LED typically runs pretty cool.

I still think you should have it inspected by a tech. Clearly it's not operating normally, and knowing that, it's my best suggestion - to get it looked at professionally.

Very well.

I was trying to avoid that since service down here isn't as easy to come by -- I live on the Virgin Islands, not every place has real, official, techs. Not to mention many large companies (like Samsung) generally don't have a presence here.

guice,

Ahhh, that's the hesitation. I see now.

There may be limited coverage in the Virgin Islands. You can try, but I think most people who have posted here regarding repairs have done them with local techs.

Samsug LCT TV does not turn off
by rrmaas / June 4, 2016 10:02 AM PDT

I too have the same issue from time to time. I can see a red light flicker (bottom RH side of screen) when I press the off button on the remotes . . . neither remote will turn tv off. Doesn't happen often, maybe once a month but unplugging does the trick even though it's difficult to reach the plug behind the wall mounted tv.

We are having the same exact problem
by tntboys08 / October 22, 2016 4:23 AM PDT

We have a brand new Samsung 55" UHD curved 4K TV that we just got last month. All of a sudden this morning, the thing won't turn off! The red light on the smart remote flickers when we push the power button, but the TV will not shut off! It responds to all of the other buttons on the remote, like the menu button, but not the power button. It did do a software update yesterday and this is the first time we are trying to shut it off since then. Did you ever get your TV to shut off. If so, what was the issue and how did you fix it???

Sorry but it's 5 years later.

The above may partially apply but at one month it's under warranty so let Samsung do their repair.

Samsung shoulder shrug
by Kaikeili / October 29, 2016 7:42 AM PDT

There is no doubt that Samsung is aware of the problem. Unfortunately for those of us who have the problem there is no solution other than to take it to a tech and spend money on a product that has obviously, a shelf life. The only thing that gets the attention of Samsung is a hit in their profits bottom line.

Same issues as previous posts. 40" LED bought in 2010. Occasional issues: cycle on and off non stop until I unplugged it for a while. Current issue and happened every few months: tv won't turn off, red LED flashes constantly, remote is useless.

Talked to Damnsung and their genius suggestion was to check the batteries in the remote. Thanks for nothing. Requested escalation for assistance or recommendation on a repair shop and they said there isn't any in my area...I live in Chicago, likely story.

Has anyone had success repairing or diagnosing the problem? Estimate on repair costs? Not sure if this is a capacitor issue like other articles discuss. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

Samsung turn back on problem fix
by Rayc108 / June 16, 2017 12:24 PM PDT

I had the same problem, when I turn the tv off by remote or switch it would turn back on. Led flashing, Tv fix, won't turn back once is turn off. My fix was to replace all caps in the power supply, spend 12$ on parts. Will now check caps to find out which one was bad. Hope this helps

Fix for my tv
by knwalter / August 15, 2017 10:54 AM PDT

For all those whose samsung will not turn off.....
I have direcTV, Playstation 3 and a Smart Stream hooked up to my tv, needless to say, I have to cycle through the "source" button on the Samsung remote to be able to use different items. My tv started to not turn all the way off, no matter how many times I went back and forth with different remotes trying to cut the damn thing off. What worked for me was putting the Samsung remote's source into tv"

SAMSUNG SUHDTV won't turn off
by rbraine / September 18, 2017 6:24 PM PDT

I have the same problem with a 55 Inch SUHD TV. has anyone resolve this problem? I called the samsung tech gurus and they are sending me a new remote. But I don't think this is a remote issue since I can change the channels and cycle from one device to another without much problems. Also the sound went off and the manual turn off under the tv screen does not work either.

This all happened after a software update sometime in March or April of this year.

Samsung LCD Tv won't turn off

I'm having the same problem with my Samsung Tv it would not turn off until it is unplugged, what a hassle that is to keep going to the rear of the Tv set to shut it down. Samsung should do better than that with their products although they are not under warranty at this point in time.
Did anyone find a fix or solution to this problem?

extension cord to the front and plug it there instead of in back. Makes it easier when you turn it off.

Samsung smart TV wont turn off
by Billydontknow / May 25, 2018 3:51 AM PDT

I have a 60" Samsung Smart TV that is about 5 years old now that I purchased from Costco. It works just fine watching cable TV turns off and on no problem. What I have noted is a heavy day of using the apps such as Netflix or an app called Plex that I installed the TV will glitch. The streaming starts to go bad, and the show I am watching starts to stutter. The only way to fix it is to turn the TV off. I have to spam the off switch, watching the red light blink from me pushing the power button over and over. The screen will eventually go black and you will hear the TV click, and then the red power light shows up indicating its finally off. I have to leave it off for 10 minutes or so, turn it back on, then it will work just fine again for a few hours. As others have said while its a great TV they went cheap when it came to the streaming processor and memory that's built into it. Which is why you will not have a problem when using your cable boxes, or gaming consoles. Just think of it as a huge outdated Android phone with apps that your TV can no longer handle because the software is not truly supported for you outdated TV anymore. This is not the on off problem, which I had with my very first Samsung TV's from 2007, that was a bad power board which I fixed by putting in new capacitors myself, 12 bucks... Good luck to you guys
