KVM Switch

A little late in providing an alternative but I would suggest a KVM switch. The KVM stands for keyboar, video, mouse. A 2 port switch should cost $30 -$40 and allow you to connect 2 computers to one monitor. An added benefit which you may find useful is that you can use the switch to have one keyboard and one mouse work with both computers. You just connect the monitor to the switch and then you connect the switch to your video ports on both computers. You get the necessary video ports on the switch (one in and two out)) and the switches usually come with cables.
I am using a KVM switch to operate my latest Windows 7computer and an old Windows XP computer which has some useful software that won't work with Windows 7
