I would never recommend a sager notebook to anyone not even my worst enemy! They are a rip off you spend over $3,000. and recieve nothing but crap for merchandise and even worse for technical support. What a complete disapointment and a waist of time and money. DO NOT BUY SAGER PRODUCTS...you will regret it.Take it from someone who knows..

Re:sager midern. But how many years ago was that?

One of the banes of notebooks is the pitiful short lifespan. If you get past year three, repair of such a notebook can exceed the cost of a new one.

Tell more?

we need to know more about why you are disappointed with sager. flaming sager about a notebook that you paid over $3k for and are dissatisfied with without posting the specific problems with the system isn't going to help the company, the readers and posters in this thread, and cnet as it is using up bandwidth.
could you specify which notebook and its specs that you bought from sager, or a sager reseller?
what problems or difficulties did you have with your sager computer?
what is your experience level in troubleshooting a computer?
what other company would you suggest another to buy from?
how would we know what you know if you didn't post a problem with your sager except for saying that they sell "crap" for $3k? remember that sager puts more money into the dedication of making quality computers rather than advertising their products.

p.s. forgive me for posting in a >1 year old thread.

Parts and repairs.
Nov 8, 2005 8:26PM PST

I am called in to a small repair center for the difficult cases. In the past they accepted laptops for repair. They still do but are much wiser now.

Sager and the nonames have this burning issue. No spare parts. If you need parts in year 2 the parts even when they would accept an order would never arrive. It was not unusual for parts to never arrive. In fact with 50 so odd laptops wanting for parts, I finally had to help the repair center craft a letter to the owners stating the issues and that we would have to return the unrepaired units to them.

Some repairs are feasible such as a dead drive, dead power brick, but if you want a laptop that is likely to be never repaired even inside warranty you pick the nonames.

I write from first hand experience over 100's of laptops from Sotec (now called avertec), Sager, Hyperdata (relabels are many!) and others.

Don't get suckered here. You'll find some that are happy but they are not the ones with the machines that need repair.

Re: Sager Midern Lousy Products and Even WORSE Service
Jan 11, 2010 3:10AM PST

Sager Midern responded to a complaint by asking why the individual posted the complaint. The individual probably posted the complaint for the same reason that I will NEVER purchase anything from Sager Midern again... I wouldn't purchase a roll of toilet paper from them.

I bought a high-end laptop (about $2500) in 2000. Right from the beginning there were problems. The only solution that Sager "Tech Support" (and I use those words VERY loosely). was to erase the hard drive and start over again. Microsoft would not help because Sager provides an OEM version of Windows, therefore Sager is responsible to provide support.

When I finally contacted Microsoft as the purchaser of MS Office, the provide a fix that took about 10 seconds (prior to this, Sager had reformatted the hard disk five times). When I told the tech how I fixed the problem, he asked where I got the information. I told him that I was able to get support from Microsoft after I purchased MS Office, and that Sager should have contacted Microsoft as part of OEM vendor support. The tech said "we can't do that because we do not have internet access." My response to that BS: IF YOU CAN NOT PROVIDE COMPETENT TECH SUPPORT, DON'T SELL THE OEM VERSION OF WINDOWS WITH YOUR PC!

The other problem involved the battery failing about two months before the warranty expired. Sager's way of dealing with this was to IGNORE MY REQUEST FOR TECH SUPPORT until the warranty expired, then say that the warranty is expired and that I would have to pay for a new battery.

Sager Midern sells overpriced crap with RUDE, and INCOMPETENT tech support. The also have an F RATING with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). If you don't believe me, see http://www.la.bbb.org/Business-Report/Sager-Midern-Computer-Inc-33000135 for proof.

Keep in mind, the BBB awards A and B ratings to some really crappy companies. You have to really foul up to get a D, let alone an F. However, Sager Midern managed to get the F.

Remember the adage: Caveat Emptor (Let the buyer beware). You have been warned!

I've had 2 Sagers.
Jan 11, 2010 8:47PM PST

My first one was a NP4780 that after 9 months the grpahics card went bad which ment a motherboard replacement. I went to my local UPS store and shipped the laptop to California. Sager called me when they received the laptop and said they would let me know within 3 days which they did by both a call and email. Thet then called asking how i wanted it shipped and I said ground which they pay for. I could have chose overnight which i would pay the difference. I received the laptop back and it still works today. I purchased it in 02. I bought another Sager that has never needed repairs and it's 5 years old and still working. I've had good luck with Sager. I just don't need that much power anymore so since then I've purchased Acer and HP laptops.
