I use a nexstar 2 (120 GB) on an Inspiron 6000. I have system restore turned off. Probably 3/4 times it won't let me safely remove and I'll have to restart.
What can I do to allow it to let me safely remove?

normally when the system does not allow you to safely remove is an application having a lock on a file on the hdd. sometimes just having an application (ie) point to the hdd will put a lock in it. try to close all open application. if not wait for a minute, try again. when all else fails, shutdown the pc, remove then restart if needed.
