safe mode

I have had my computer shut down for Hurricane Charley, when I restarted I had to go to safe mode to get it up. How do I go off safe mode and get back to normal.
Thanks
Charlie

"I had to go to Safe mode": please explain why you had to do so.

I shut down my Windows 98 computer at least once a day, and always return to normal mode. So the reason is unclear, to say the least.

What happens if you shutdown and reboot? And if you press f8 (or keep ctrl-key pressed) during the boot and explicitely choose normal mode (1, I think) from the boot menu?

Thanks Kees, That helped me to solve the problem. After I rebooted per your directions, I realized that I was already in normal mode and then went in and set my colors from 256 colors to 24 bit colors and it returned to normal.
My very Best Regards
Charlie
