Safe Mode

Feb 20, 2004 9:45PM PST

I am unable to Defrag my hard drive and I seem to remember reading somewhere that putting the computer into 'Safe Mode' sometimes helps. Is this correct and how do I put my computer into Safe Mode?

click start, shutdown, restart, and OK. When the first screen appears as the computer restarts, press f8 repeatedly, until the statup menu opens. Select safe mode. You can do defrag or scandisc from this. Stops lots of restart of defrag.

I agree with Gary that's how i done it for a year or so but i kept geting bad report's concerning my defrag from http://www.pcpitstop.com about my defragmentation even though i just done it befor running the test's! I installed disckeeper 8.0 and it work's quite well now i get great report's from pcpitstop and never have to defrag again because i have disckeeper set to run with the screensaver! http://www.excsoft.com is where i got it and it done wander's for windows 98 as well.
