S4 BER (Beyond Economical Repair) after ATT Update

by tktino / January 27, 2014 5:55 AM PST

I'm a first-time droid user, so these ATT updates are a new thing for me. Anyways, I wasn't sure if the updates were spam or spyware but I avoided updates for a long time till I could trust them. So I applied the updates, took a long time to load and starts to apply. I left the phone alone because I couldn't use it and I came back to an error message. It wouldn't even startup, I felt totally clueless. So I called Samsung and sent it in for repairs. Now I'm tracking the repairs and its now saying its "beyond economical repair". What the hell, I applied an update that was prompted for month, so I have a dead phone? And the reason why my phone is BER? "DEVICE ROOTED", which I have no clue what it is and why my device is BER? It was in perfect condition before the update, internally and externally. If I can't get my device repair back to working condition, this will be my last samsung device and be sure to spread the word to friends and family.

If you bought the phone with ATT and it's their update, I think they are the ones responsible. What did they say in the ATT shop when you brought back the phone?
Or wasn't it an ATT branded phone?
