Sony/Phillips Digital Interface. A standard whose spec was developed by those two companies.
It provides the capabililty to transfer digital audio files directly in digital format without first converting to an analog format.
I've never used it but it seems that the google info gives any more info that may be needed.
If you had some hardware that required its use, you would likely be told somewhere in its documentation.
Hello... on many of the new motherboards, there are onboard S/PDIF connectors, and I found the name by looking at a picture of a motherboard with labels.
I've googled around, but cannot find an "English" definition. All I know so far is it's some sort of digital audio connector.
Might someone explain it in simpler terms than some of the sites I have been to? Such as, what particular purpose does it hold, is it an input or an output, and what sort of devices can interact with the port?
Thanks, good day,
