S.A. Clearing Paid Transactions

We are using Simply Accounting 2008. I have been trying to clear out our old customer accounts, but I keep getting a message saying that I can't remove these customers until I clear all paid transactions for those accounts. I've followed Simply's directions for clearing these transactions, but am still getting the same message when I try to remove them. I've even gone out of the program and come back in, but it doesn't make any difference. Any help out there?
