Running xp programs on windows 7 computer

We have just purchased a new computer running windows 7.
My previous computer ran windows xp. How do i run xp programs on my new computer?

I installed the programs and they ran. There are folk that want to copy programs but we know that's a dead end.

Three options:
1. Install and run
2. Install and run in compatibility mode.
3. Install the virtual XP and use that to run the program. You need Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate for that. See http://windows.microsoft.com/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7

It's kind of amazing that new PC's are still being sold with Windows 7. Or do you mean "second hand" or "used" where you write "new"?
