Running Windows 7 but microsoft thinks it's XP?

Mar 1, 2016 6:37AM PST

Computer Properties shows Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1. "winver' shows 7 Ultimate version 6.1 with SP1. Shows up as Windows 7 Ultimate on start-up. Unable to upgrade Explorer and when I go the Microsoft site to try, it's diagnosis says I'm running XP and am unable to upgrade.
How do I fix?
Thanks!

I've seen that.

In 2 cases too. The first was a crack pirate version of 7 and the next time it was a machine full of infections and a damage OS. The first case took a proper license to fix, the second it was not going to be cost effective to undo the damage so we reloaded.

Hope this helps.

Proper version of Windows 7 with purchased Product Key, but good insight on malware-- time to scan!
