I have a Dell Inspiron 1100/XP home/SP2. I ran sfc /scannow and got message that a file was missing, and to put in the orginal operating disk. Big mistake, when I rebooted I recieved a message that I needed to call MS and give them the ID numbers to reactivate Windows. Well none of the numbers generated were valid and was directed to Dell tech support. After $99 and about eight hours with India I reformated the disk and ran the orginal operating disk and reloaded Windows. I then reloaded SP2. I ran SFC /scannow again and got the same message that a file was missing. I put the SP2 disk in and said it needed the orginal disk, being wiser I stopped and canceled. Can someone explain why the SP2 can't replace this alledged missing file?
