Running monitor at wrong resolution

Jun 30, 2007 7:06AM PDT

Hi,

I was recently given a 19" monitor with a native resolution of 1440x900. Unfortunately my laptop does not support this resolution and as such I am having to run it at a lower resolution (the nearest I can do are 1280x960 and 1400x960) which obviously means a very blurry image. Can this damage the monitor? At some point I am planning to change laptop, however I could be running this for a couple of months however do not want to damage the monitor.

Only very old monitors (over 5 years?) would suffer.

But it's too bad you didn't tell the make and model of the monitor. I might have gone looking for the all important MONITOR.INF file for you.

SWISSTEC J19/1

It's a SWISSTEC J19/1 if you are still feeling kind Happy

I did not list anything such as that before as I assumed it was the graphics chip in the laptop which "controlled" which resolution is displayed at.

I tried a program called PowerStrip but it flips straight back to 1280x960 if i try to force 1440x900.

At page 16 of http://www.umc-slovakia.sk/manuals/j19_1/J19_1_manual_english.pdf is how to adjust it to use your PC's VGA signals.

There is no monitor.inf found so all we can do is ask for it from who you bought it from. Just google MONITOR.INF to see what it does...

But there is nothing to worry about here since it's not like our old CRT systems that did have an issue a long time ago.
