Running Everest (and maybe other programs)

Oct 1, 2004 1:42AM PDT

From time to time, I have downloaded a program and then not been able to figure out how to run it. For example, I've installed Everest (the successor to Aida32, which, for the info of those not acquainted with it, provides all kinds of info about your computer). But when I click on the desktop icon it provided, or on Everest in Explorer, I get a list of files (not including an .exe file). But what do I do to get the program on my moniter so I can run it?

Thanks, grandpaw

1. Right-click on that icon then select "Properties"

2. In the "Target" box make sure it contains "C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\everest.exe"

grandpaw,

Don't be offended....

Did you unzip the file?

I went here http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?dlid=4〈=en
and down loaded a zip file. Extracted 2 folders and 14 files. One of these files is "everest.exe".

To extract, or unzip, the file, create a folder on the desktop named "everest"(right click open area desktop ->new -> click Folder). Drag the Everest icon into this folder.(place mouse on icon, hold down left mouse button and drag on top folder, release mouse button) Open folder -> right click icon -> left click "extract all". Wizard will default file extraction to desktop folder. When done uncheck box "show extracted files".

Or right click icon -> left click "extract all".
On second page of wizzard you have to create a folder to extract files to.

If you do not do this you will have 16 new icons. Knew of one person that extracted a large application to his desk top, wound up with 40 new icons.

After extraction... start -> run -> browse to desktop folder "Everest (or whever you unziped files to)-> select this folder, click open ->select "everest.exe" -> open -> OK, follow the bouncing ball.

Hope I didn't offend

I have Everest now

I don't know what happened to the .exe file, but it apparently got lost in my confusion. But anyhow I reinstalled Everest and now have the icon on my desktop that gives me the page where I can get the information.

Thanks to Frank and Bill for their input.
