Question

Run Bit Defender and Kaspersky Pure 3 simultaneously?

Jan 13, 2015 3:37PM PST

I have Win 7 running Bit Defender Total Security which works fine. My problem is that I keep getting the same virus repeatedly (it is ID'd by BD and quarantined).

I also run Antimalware bytes, but this refuses to run over half the time (even using their "Chameleon" disguise).

I am considering installing and running Kaspersky's Pure 3.0 2015 along with Bit Defender. Call me a belt and suspenders guy, but security is mandatory and I want to be well-fortified.

Question: Can anyone verify that the two programs will not conflict, either during installation or more importantly, during use? I would like some hard info before I make the purchase of the Kaspersky Pure 3.0. Help please? Much appreciated.

It's not recommended to run 2 different antiviruses at the same time. You can install different ones, of course, but only run one the real-time part of one at the same time.

Did you try running a CD-based version of some other program than BitDefender. There are many, they are free, and since you boot from the CD to run it, there is no need to install it, and there's no interference with anything running in Windows.

best not to have two antiviruses installed at same time. personally I will run housecall for a second opinion. If you are really getting a virus and not some false reading, you really need to find out where it is coming from otherwise you will not be "well fortified"

A Different Approach ..

I realize it's not what you asked, but if I were in your shoes I would want to address my present problems (first) before looking for something new.

'My problem is that I keep getting the same virus repeatedly (it is ID'd by BD and quarantined)'

It would be difficult for us to tell, without additional details about the same "virus" BD repeatedly reports. For example its name and location. (If you feel it's a false reading, you always have the option to submit a sample to Bitdefender.)

'I also run Antimalware bytes, but this refuses to run over half the time'

It would be important to know (exactly) what is meant by Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) "refuses to run half the time". More importantly, which version of MBAM is installed. The free standalone? Or the paid Pro version?

Some with BTS and MBAM installed experience no conflicts. Some do. Those at Bitdefender feel they should not be run together without adding exclusions to both Bitdefender and MBAM.

Just my take on things..

Personally I'd run the Kaspersky INTERNET SECURITY suite rather than PURE. Add the MALWAREBYTES, free download as an add on..and as others have said, one A/V package, don't try to run two, there will be conflicts. Another thing, when running a MALWAREBYTES scan, always run it in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.
