Rumor - Replacement for Coolpix 8800

Mar 15, 2005 1:00AM PST

I went to two local retail outlets (Ritz Camera and Best Buys) to look at the 8800. Neither store had one in stock and didn't know when they would have any. I then check several on line discount outlets and saw that the camera was available for as low as $499. When I asked why the price had been reduced from $999, I was told that a replacement for the 8800 would be coming out in April 2005. Has anybody else heard about this? Does anyone know what the replacement for the 8800 will have that is new or improved?

Have not heard any rumors on this one.

There is the PIE-2005 (Photo Imging Expo) happening March 17-20.

Something could get announced there.

..........

It is hard to believe that you can find a new 8800 for $500. I have never seen that big of a price reduction, even for a camera that was to be replaced.

I also wanted a new camera from Best Buy (Olympus C-7000). It was sold out and no more were being ordered. They told me that it was time for the new models comming out. I also am looking at the 8800. I don't know if the manufactures or the retailers are discontinuing these. Anyone know?
