RULES, for the civilian population

Apr 24, 2004 5:26AM PDT

Dear Civilians,

We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has
many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those
of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of
the areas requiring your assistance:

1. The next time you see an adult talking (or wearing a hat) during the
playing of the National Anthem ... kick their ***.

2. When you witness firsthand someone burning the American Flag in
protest ... kick their ***.

3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest
amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise,
quietly pull them aside and explain how these Veterans fought for the very
freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices
these Veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while
a Disabled Veteran kicks their ***.

4. (GUYS) If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were.
Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDU's), telling others that you used to be
"Special Forces," and collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay
if you were still seven. Now, it will only make you look stupid and get your *** kicked.

5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, "Do you
fly a jet?" Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an ***
kicking (children are exempt).

6. If you witness someone calling the U.S. Coast Guard non military, inform them
of their mistake ... and kick their ***.

7. Roseanne Barr's singing of the National Anthem is not a blooper ... it was a
disgrace and disrespectful. Laugh, and sooner or later your *** will be kicked.

8. Next time Old Glory (U.S. flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn
feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly thank
the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her ... of course, failure
to do either of those could earn you a severe *** kicking.

9. What Jane Fonda did during the Vietnam War makes her the enemy. The
proper word to describe her is "traitor," Just mention her nomination for "Woman
of the Year" and get your *** kicked.

10. Don't try to discuss politics with a military member or a veteran. We are
Americans and we all bleed the same regardless of our party affiliation. Our
Chain of Command is to include our Commander in Chief. The President
(for those who didn't know) is our CINC regardless of political party. We have
no inside track on what happens inside those big important buildings where all
those representatives meet. All we know is that when those civilian representatives
screw up the situation, they call upon the military to go straighten it out. The military
member might direct you to Oliver North. (I can see him kicking your *** already.)

11. "Your mama wears combat boots" never made sense to me ... stop saying it!
If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore, could kick your ***!

12. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not communists, so stop saying "Let's go kill
those Commie's!!!" And stop asking us where he is!!!! Crystal balls are not standard
issue in the military. That reminds me ... if you see anyone calling those damn
psychic phone numbers, let me know, so I can go kick their ***.

13. Flyboy (Air Force), Jar Head (Marines), Grunt (Army), Squid (Navy) etc., are
terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are a service
member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. That could get your *** kicked.

14. Last but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military,
support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that
you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands
of sailors and troops far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank
God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country
would get it's *** kicked.

i am so glad
Apr 24, 2004 6:47AM PDT

that being an American now means we just "kick your ***" if you might think or act in such a way that might be "outside the box" of the current wave of nationalism. Though I know this is meant to be light hearted in its own misguided way, it is exactly this kind of patriotic humor which makes me just tired and ashamed of this Toby Keith Americanism.
My family has its share of veterans, and I am glad to be proud of them, their sacrifices, and I know full well what they gave so that I might be leading the life I do. Never in all their years have I heard them utter something so brash, annoying, or stupid as I have heard these long years since 9-11.
Gee, I hope I don't get my *** kicked for writing this....think I'l;l go take down my flag and put it away for just a little while.

You're supposed, Tony...
Apr 24, 2004 10:19AM PDT

Tony, veterans are supposed to stand there and take insults and barbs hurled at them. But son a of a gun, they are not playing that game. I think that this confuses some of the people attacking under whatever name(s)that we don't.
Also, we're not supposed to remember things that run counter to some "fact" or line of stuff that they have picked up somewhere on a source with an anti-war, anti-veteran,anti-U.S., anti-political party or anti-whatever agenda.
I guess that we're not as much "fun" anymore. Tough bananas for the attack crowd.

I never insulted
Apr 25, 2004 1:48AM PDT

the armed forces or anyone who served. I support the troops. I hate the war, feel it has become a fairly senseless abomination. It is the people here, in country, shouting this nationalistic hooha who I feel are dangerous, starting with the current administration. Blind leading the blind.

My relatives are well aware of my attitudes and we get along fine, as well as friends of mine who have served.

and it was the same in nam the ones that never served or had the $$$ to buy there way into collage made the vietnam turn out the way it did.

I'm sorry

but what you wrote made absolutely no sense. All I can say is I don't feel anything on my shoulders as I stated I DO support the armed forces, just not the ones in charge of them.

Well, I'll say that when you hurl an insult like "uberpatriot" with its obvious implication with the "uber" at someone, you feel it wise to do so behind the safety of a name like moosteve.

Re: which 'People's Republic' -- OFFENSIVE MESSAGE!
Apr 25, 2004 2:51PM PDT

Hi, Ed.

While Darrin's rhetoric is way over the top, your suggestion is even more offensive. America, like this forum, is based on freedom of speech and belief. All too many on the right, including our President, are getting back into the Cold War-era "with us or against us" nonsense, which leads to your "love it or leave it!" NO! It's our country too, and we must work to preserve what's good and unique in America, not let it be taken down the road to the same sort of monolitihic totalitarianism on the right that you're implying Darrin wants on the left.

Your post is another perfect example of Newt's manual in action -- equate those on the left with Communists and traitors. Well, we're not -- we're standing up for the same principles that Jefferson, Franklin, et al. set forth in the great documents associated with our nation's founding!

Yeap a lot of them lately.

From left and right.

And maybe some from me, so be it. I don't object to protestors and disagreement, I object to disrespect on both sides.

And there seems plenty to go around. So much in fact that everyone is throwing eggs and not stopping to wipe egg off their face.

Dave I'd could have accepted and passed without comment your post if had stopped at end of first paragraph.

But your fixation on the demonizing of a "Newt manual" is just as offensive as anything you're complaining about.

You repeatedly use the "Newt manual" refrain to tar Republicans and conservatives as willing to slander and crucify anyone that has a different view.

As someone somewhere in the middle of the two extremes, it's hard not to say a pox on both of your houses and either attack or ignore all.
