RSS can replace a newspaper

by Nicholas Buenk / January 14, 2009 11:39 AM PST

The conversation about newspapers in 890.
I think RSS does a great job of replacing the browsability of newspapers. You can scan the headlines rather easily and quickly see what's interesting. If you have a general enough feed, you'll get much the same result as browsing through a newspaper for headlines.
Better more paper like experience than moving through subcategories on a web page.

When it works, it works well
by RobertBrown30 / January 14, 2009 10:54 PM PST

I dropped my newspaper subscription to save $$. I've gone all RSS for news and now even read RSS feeds from other surrounding papers.

Sometimes the feed suddenly quits with no warning and I need to revisit the site and hunt for the feed and replace the old URL.

I read with Bloglines. I like logging in from different computers, it keeps articles in sync.
