General discussion

RS232 to USB

Jun 9, 2005 12:07AM PDT

Hi all,

I have an older GPS the connected to my old computer with a serial (RS232) cable. However, my new laptop has no such port on it.

Garmin makes an adaptor cable to convert but they want $60. Would any such adaptor, provided I find one cheaper, work for me? $60 seem a bit steep.

TIA,
Eric

Thanks for the quick response Bob!

What's really happening here is that I have an older Garmin eMap that I use on my motorcycle and I have the Garmin MapSource software. The software alows me to plot a route on the computer which I can download, maps and all, to the GPS, provided I can make the serial connection. Then I clip the GPS to the cycle and go for a ride.

Again, thank you,
Eric
