Question

Router reception & Laptop internet loading

Jul 3, 2011 8:50PM PDT

Recently installed new router. DSL line from "the street" connects to some kind of box (not a modem) which we then connect to the router with an ethernet cable. DSL signal is adequately strong, Router is set up correctly (per the manufacturer) and indeed when using wireless the laptop DOES show excellent signal strength. However internet pages take eons to download. When I connect laptop directly to the DSL line this issue does not occur. Nor does it occur when I directly connect the laptop to the router.
What might the problem be? It's very frustrating to have a router supposedly connected correctly and a laptop that's showing full strong signal strength yet pages don't load !! I've cleared cache and have no other windows open. Any help to give ?

The nice thing with a laptop ...

is that it's portable. So you can easily go a friend, family member, WiFi hotspot or whatever to try if it's better there.
That would show if you need to look at your router or at your laptop to solve the issue.

Sometimes wireless systems can't work properly for various cause, so you should use direct connection.
