Question

Router Randomly Resets?

Jul 19, 2017 2:54PM PDT

So basically I have internet through TWC (or Spectrum whatever you want to call it) and my router modem combo randomly resets. It does not turn off it just randomly has all of its lights flashing, the internet goes out, and I have to wait til it comes back. I contacted TWC they said it was all clear on their end, so I thought it was the router, so I got a new one, and the same thing happens. I have normal speeds and everything it just randomly stops. I am starting to think its related to my xbox because it does it the most when I am on it, but I am not sure, I have tried both wired and wireless connections and the same things happens. I have also changed channels, tried auto channel selection, and a bunch of other stuff but this doesnt make sense anymore. Help please.

On TWC here.

But I don't see the modem and router models so I have to be vague here. Try the latest firmware in your router and put it on an UPS.

The current router is an Netgear N300, Model: C3000. And according to TWC the router is up to date.

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WNR2000v5#download is for a version 5 and came out about the last month in 2016. Is your firmware current?

I had my TWC modem going to a TP Link Archer C9 but a killer deal on the Linksys EA9500 AC5400 Max-Stream Tri Band MU-MIMO WiFi Router had me upgrade.

It's been solid with about one outage a week or less. It's not my router.

Check on the router then check the web site.

I recall I had a model like this and I gave it away due to it being unreliable.

Answer
how many devices connected
Jul 19, 2017 3:11PM PDT

how many devices are connected to the router (wire and wireless)? you said it mostly happens when on the xbox, how far is the xbox from the router?

devices
Jul 19, 2017 3:14PM PDT

The max number i would ever have at the same time would be 4 my phone, laptop, xbox, and girlfriends phone. That is rarely the case tho it is usually my phone and xbox at the same time, so 2. And the router is about 10ft away and i have tried wired and wireless before.

not about on at the same time

n300 is on the low end when it comes to connected devices. try wire again but plug directly into the modem bypassing the router and see if it resets.

Would not buy. Why?
Jul 19, 2017 3:43PM PDT

Those integrated models get a lot of complaints.

Did you try putting it on an UPS to be sure it's not a power related issue?

- Collapse -
you original post is confused about that
Jul 19, 2017 3:36PM PDT

first you said modem/router combo, but then you said you got a new router which made it sound like they were separate.

anyway, how old is the xbox? it could be going bad. does it have the latest firmware?
