Router Problem - cant connect online

Apr 26, 2005 9:54AM PDT

OK basically i followed all instructions through the cd-rom for the router yet i always get stuck towards the end with this message:

"The router is not able to connect to the internet. Try turning the cable/DSL modem OFF and back ON again. Do you want to try again?"

I did turn it off waited for bout a minute den turned it on again but still same thing. My TCP/IP connections are set to auto which should be rite, i think.

I have an Optimum Online Service which works fine, and the cable line to the box is already split at its base, the other line is for the TV. And my router is a Linksys WRT54G (wireless).

Lookin for answers why it may not be able to connect and how can i fix and make it connect.

p.s. first time setting this up

Thankx

A couple of things to do....
Apr 26, 2005 10:49AM PDT

1) Try connecting the modem directly to the PC, bypassing the router. Shutdown and restart both the modem and computer in that order. If you can connect to the Internet you have narrowed down the trouble spot.

2) If you get an internet connection with #1, go to Linksys's website and download the latest firmware for the router. Update the firmware and retry the connection, this time with the router wired in.

Usually you don't connect the router to...

install the software.

Connect your PC to the Modem... insert the Router CD ... follow the instruction (filing in the name of your Wireless network, Security (WEP/WPA) as needed, and password/passphrase etc. (Write this down)

Shutdown your Modem and PC....
Connect your Router to the Modem
Restart the MODEM.. wait till all light stop blinking
Restart your PC or laptop.

If you create or configure with WEP/WPA + Password/Passphrase, you need to Open Network connection and ADD your Wireless network.

For added security, use mac address filter.
