Question

Router location

Jul 20, 2015 4:21PM PDT

I am presently using a Linksys E2500 router which is hardwired into my desktop and is providing wifi to a laptop and a tablet. Unfortunately, the router is located at one end of the house and the laptop is used at the other end. Often times the laptop can not get a strong enough signal to stay online. If I can use a 25 foot Ethernet cable I can locate the router closer to the laptop and in a less restricted area and hopefully get a stronger signal. I am worried, however, that the extra long cable could degrade the signal strength, and not give me any real improvement. Any advice? If it will work what class of cable should I use? Thanks.

Answer
Where's the modem?

It would also depend on where the modem is located. You would probably have to get a long cable to go from the modem to the router. Or a long cable from the wall to the modem to move the modem with the router.
