Question

router extender

Dec 16, 2019 9:37AM PST

Charter tells me I need a router extender. That Amazon streaming needs more bandwidth. It's all Greek to me. I am old school, 91 years. My router is upstairs next to my computer. The Television is down stairs halfway across the main floor in the living room. I have a very limited budget. Can you recommend an affordable extender-- name and type, etc. Thanks, guys.

extender

Maybe I misheard--about bandwidth--reduces, increases etc.? But am I on the right track? That an extender plugged into the wall near the television downstairs will improve Amazon streaming reception? Also a Best Buy Geek recommended: Linksys- AC750 Boost Range Extender for $47.99. Any comment? Thanks a mil.

That would reduce bandwidth. Might increase range.

Nature of the beast.

As to the AC750 you won't read me advise to get an extender, ever. Folk should try them but only if there is a full no questions asked return policy. These are very hit and miss devices.

-> PART 2. If you plug an extender near the television downstairs then you placed the extender in the wrong location. Let me see if I can find an article on placement. Shame the Bet Buy Geek didn't cover that.

So here we are with a few issues.
1. Our office will not sell, service or advise use of extenders.
Why? Too unreliable, too many callbacks.
2. Your choice of location is incorrect. It goes about at the halfway point.
3. It reduces bandwidth. It will not increase such. It might increase range.
