Question

router bottleneck?

Jul 29, 2016 7:28PM PDT

I have a brand new RT-N66U Asus router. it has a 4gb lan / 1gb lan connection. without the router, my computer gets 175mbs straight the modem. with the router, my computer gets 90-100mbs.

is there some sort of limiter on routers now?

https://www.google.com/search?q=RT-N66U&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=rt-n66u+slow+ethernet finds this is a common complaint.

From the discussion there:

"I figured out that its the PPPoE issue.
If I let ASUS handle the PPPoE, the maximum download speed I get is around 34 Mbps.

If I let the modem do the PPPoE and I set the router to automatic IP I get the full 50 Mbps from the router but this feature does not allow me to use the AiCloud as the IP is 192....
Let me know if there is any way to fix the router to handle PPPoE better or if I can have access to AiCloud when I set up the Modem to the PPPoE and I set the router to do Automatic IP"

Unsure why this wasn't helpful.

I found the issue for you and what appears to be a few fixes.

I understand it's technical and some will be challenged at getting it setup.

At least we know what's up know and an exit.
