Question

Router as an access point

Mar 25, 2017 7:05AM PDT

Hi there,

So im trying for a few days to setup a router as an access point to increase the wifi coverage in my house.

My main router is D-Link N600
My other router is Tenda W303r.

I checked many guides and tutorials about this and most of them was the same, however i still can't make it woks.

I did this so far:

My main router IP is 192.168.0.1
IP range: 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.128

In my new router i set the LAN IP to 192.168.0.2 and in my main router i give a static IP 192.168.0.2 to my new router via Mac address to prevent this IP to be assigned to other device.
And removed the wireless security.

In my new router, after setting the LAN IP to 192.168.0.2
I have disabled the DHCP.
Set the WAN medium to be wireless and connect to my main router wifi.

Now my new router is connected to my main router and getting the IP 192.168.0.2 always.

However, when im trying to connect to my new router wifi im getting "obtaining ip attempt" loop
Also when im conecting to my new router via Ethernet cable, i can reach thr interface but still now internet.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks.

Clarification Request
When I use a router as a WAP
Mar 25, 2017 7:27AM PDT

I follow one of the many guides on the web (I don't duplicate that here.)

But your statement here looks odd. This line.
"Set the WAN medium to be wireless and connect to my main router wifi."

In all my setups I run an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the first router to a LAN port of the second router. If you are trying to go wireless from 1st to 2nd router then I will not be here to help.

Make sure you change the operating mode to infrastructure or WDS. If you haven't done this, the configuration will not work correctly.

Where i should make this changes?
In the main router or the new router?

I didn't found such settings in both of them.

If you meant the new router WAN mode i have only those options:
PPPOE
PPPOE Russia
Static IP
DHCP
PPTP
L2TP

Right now it's on DHCP,
I tried to change it to static IP and set 192.168.0.2 but im getting an error that the WAN ip is the same as rhe LAN IP.

Any other thoughts?

Your new router is where the setting needs to be changed. It should also not be set to run DHCP. I looked up a video on your interface for the Tenda, and the setting is in the Advanced Setting menu, in the wireless setting tab. Place the unit in Wireless Bridge Mode or WDS Mode.
