You can leave them on if, you have WPA security on. Without WPA security on, someone else can use your wireless connection.
As for the computers, Do you have a firewall? I would NOT depend on Windows firewall. I use Zone Alarm. It blocks incoming and outgoing, Windows only blocks incoming.
Zone alarm can be downloaded here

Yes, you can move the modem and router to another room and everything should be ok. Remember, and I'm guessing that you are using DSL, You have to have a DSL filter on everything connected to the phone line except, the Modem itself. All Phones, answering machines and faxes need to have a DSL filter. They can share one.
Also cordless phones using 2.4gh can affect your connection since the wireless routers use the same frequency.
Simple rules
SSID on
WPA security
and update the firmware on the wireless router to avoid being disconnected.
Rick
I have just gone with the highspeed. I was on the good old dial up forever, and boy do I love this. I am so new with this, that I would like to know,
1.) When we are leaving for a few days, do we just leave the router on and the modem and turn off the computer? Silly question I know.
2.) I would like to move the router and the modem from where they put them when they set it up for me. I did not think to ask them, if I can turn off Pc and laptop, undo the wires and from behind the modem and router move to where I want them, plug back in and everything will still work or will I have to reset them up again?
Thanks
