Is there any effective program available to detect and, if present, remove Rootkits? Has anyone ever heard of F-Secure Backlight?

Rootkit Revealer will find rootkits, but it will not remove them.
Blacklight will find them and rename the bad files so they do not run. Then they can be deleted. It is possible that all files that it finds are not bad, though, so you have to be careful.
Webroot SpySweeper may help with some.
have a look at a previous post by Donna regarding F-Secure's Blacklight..

If you are interest, it will be available for usage until March 1, 2006.
While this is not the direct d/l, you can read more about it at F-Secure's site. If at that time you do wish to d/l, the link is there.
