Question

Rollback to Factory Disk on Vista

Apr 25, 2011 1:24AM PDT

Ive a question, Ive had periodic glitches on my system ( most recent, unable to get successful System Restore, on separate thread), and wanted to locate program on computer where I can rollback pc to raw factory disk but cant locate on my Vista. What is the procedure to locate this option? Want to locate as a fail-safe, the error glitch on System Restore causes me to want this backup option handy. Any feedback from forum techs would be appreciated.

Alas, this isn't a Vista option from Microsoft. It's added by the maker of the hardware. So the way to do it is dependent on that. But it should be in the user manual.
Maybe, if you tell make and model, somebody can tell you.

You're asking about a "disk" in the subject line and a "program" in your post. That's not the same.

Such as HP 1234XZ or Acer 1516. Not even mention if it's a desktop or a laptop.

it's not a backup option. Backup is from your PC to some other media. Generally it's called system recovery, but you can use 'restore' also. Restore is just the opposite from backup.

"Q: How do I reinstall the Operating System on the computer?A: Select
models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a
hidden drive built into the computer. To start the system recovery:

Restart the computer.

When the Gateway logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.

When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.

After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not
available or fails during the recovery, recovery of the operating
system will need to be from Recovery Media.

Insert the disk labeled System CD into the computer's disk drive and restart the computer.

When the Gateway logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly.

Select either CDROM or DVD as the boot device, this may vary depending on the system.

When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first Recovery CD.

As to the recovery disk order page. I guessed at your model. You can go to the web page and look for the search for ordering parts and discs.
